Truth seeking
This is NOT something the narcissist does. It’s something their victims do, possibly something you do?
There is peace in knowing the truth. During disputes with Susan I found myself trying to reason with her, pointing out the facts, trying to figure it out step by step.
That was before I realized that I was just being manipulated. She wasn’t trying to arrive at the truth of the matter at all. She was far more interested in:
- Gaslighting the crap out of me (denying the reality, making up the reality)
- Revising history (deliberately skewing past events)
- Lying
- Levelling (claiming I’m as bad as her)
- Seeking narcissistic supply (attention seeking)
- Being belligerent (just wanting to fight and argue in general)
So, the moral of the story. State your case:
- If it’s heard, great. You’re dealing with somebody healthy.
- If it’s ignored or attacked, walk away, you’re wasting your time. This person is not interested in getting to the truth. It’s quite likely that the truth is not on the agenda at all. It’s more likely that the two agenda items are control/dominance and narcissistic supply.
Don’t feed the troll.
