Silent Treatment

A form of stonewalling.

Susan didn’t do the silent-treatment. However, I’ve been speaking to somebody who’s on the receiving end of it from time to time and it sounds like hell.
It’s control. They might as well hit you. Silent treatment is done in order to shut you out until such time as you come round to their demands. I guess when it’s happening that’s possibly not obvious. However, when you think about it, the following probably applies:

  • The silent testament is uncomfortable.
  • It’s intimidating.
  • Communication has been shut down and isn’t open for business.
  • You have to wait.
  • And wait some more, until you eventually giv in, probably apologize and do what it takes to restore the peace.

So, you gave in, they manipulated you, they got their way, you capitulated. You got controlled.

Now, I appreciate that what they actually wanted in the first place may not be obvious. But now that things are back to normal, I guess they got it… whatever it was…

Regardless of what it was, power and control fill the void #narcissistic-supply.
