Revision of History

Revision of history.
Rewriting past events.
Recalling past events incorrectly.

This is of course Gaslighting. Or a specific flavor of it.

This was one of Susan’s favorite things to do. She would have a completely different recollection of past events than I would. Naturally, she’d be painted in a good light and I’d be painted in a bad light.

Things that happened according to her happened very differently.

Two people recalling past events differently is quite normal and common. To be willing to hear each others recollection of it and try to work out the truth of it together is normal and healthy.

Two people continually recalling past events differently is not normal. To be completely unwilling to hear each other out is not normal. To be completely unwilling to entertain the other persons perspective at all is a clear red flag. It’s a clear manipulation. The manipulator is trying to con you. For whatever reason they’re trying to trick you.

Susan would do this all the time. Examples include, claiming she paid for something she didn’t. Claiming I didn’t pay for something that I did pay for.

It’s gaslighting all the way but I guess it’s a specific manipulation in its own right.
