Scapegoating

Disturbing!

Given even the slightest hint that I was allying with her against our daughter, Susan would delight and instantly align with me against our daughter.

For example, I’d say, “that was a bit out of character, an early night might be no harm for her”. The response would be an excited over the top “Yea, she’s very bad lately isn’t she, I think there’s actually something wrong with that child” or some such ( #scapegoat #devaluation #lack-of-empathy ) .

Whoa, that’s not really what I meant…

This weird and not so subtle damming dismissal of our daughter and the completely inaccurate depiction of her as a person was unsettling ( #projection ) . The disconnect between the two of them was truly obvious in these strange exchanges.

The tone of the response and the eager willingness to scapegoat and write off our daughter so easily; it’s just not how it should be, something is way off ( #lack-of-empathy ) .
