We’re in the early stages of the divorce proceedings. I arrive home late after leaving the house for a few hours to avoid her.

I hear the dreaded “I want to talk to you” coming from “her” room. She tells me she’s received a bill from her divorce lawyer. She’s crying and pleading with me, “I can’t afford this, why are you doing this to me?” ( #victim-playing #manipulation #blame-shifting ) .

She won’t drop it. I even say to her, “so I’m not allowed to leave, I have to stay here listening to this”. The answer was simply “yes you do because I’m not finished” ( #control #stonewalling #entitlement ) . On it goes. I think we’re finished now so I leave the room. As predicted, moments later, she’s following me around the house, room to room as I go about my business ( #control #lack-of-empathy #entitlement ) . She’s not crying anymore, now she’s cold fury, venomous, threatening and then, she lets rip: ( #narcissistic-rage #vitriol ) .

I’m going to tell Emma why she doesn’t have any brothers or sisters. Yea, I’m going to tell her all about how you killed them. I’m going to take your pension, I’m going to take your savings, I’m getting the house and I’ll be getting half your salary. My worry is that she’ll make good on those threats, this is a small town, if such seeds of doubt are spread around the place it could see me having to vacate the town and even further.
