The door handle

The door handle to the main back door of our house developed an issue. It became stuck at times. It would take quite a bit of wiggling to dislodge it to get it moving again.

One day I came home to find the handle pointed down instead of horizontal. I asked Susan about it. She played dumb, didn’t know anything about it. I had a look ( #gaslighting ) .

“So, you don’t know how the handle came to be upside down then?” I asked. “No blah blah blah” she responded ( #gaslighting #manipulation ) .

“Ok, so it looks as though the handle was removed and refitted incorrectly”, I continued. “I don’t know anything about it”, she insisted ( #gaslighting ) .

I found this utterly bizarre. Clearly she had attempted to repair it and messed it up even worse. I told her we’d need to call the police, because clearly somebody had done this. She didn’t seem too worried when I suggested that we check to see if it was actually a break-in.

The handle still worked so we left it. There wasn’t much mention of it again for a while.

I eventually repaired the handle. It needed a new part which had become bent. Even after that, it still wasn’t quite right because it needed a new spring of some sort which I didn’t bother to source.

I later got blamed for the state of the handle, many times, many times indeed ( #blame-shifting #belligerent ) . (In a weird way I think this may have been her trying to convince herself that I was the one who actually did it).
