Conditional help

The hero!

My father unfortunately got cancer and required surgery. He’s since made a wonderful recovery. Susan “knows people” because she works as a behind the scenes administrator in the hospital where my father was treated. Apparently, her heroic intervention using “her connections” got my father the best treatment and the best recovery room ( #grandiosity #manipulation ) . He got a private room rather than a shared room following his surgery. I’ll never be sure if her intervention actually caused this or not but I’d be surprised if her simply asking resulted in “special treatment” ( #entitlement #grandiosity ) . I’d also be a little disturbed if the system was that corrupt.

Now every Monday she says the following:

  • “After all I did for your family” ( #martyrdom #supply ) .
  • “I should never have helped, you’re so ungrateful” ( #victim-playing #manipulation ) .
  • “Your father will get sick again, and when he does, he can go to hell, I certainly won’t be helping him” ( #vindictive #vitriol #lack-of-empathy ) .
  • “I won’t be doing anything for you or your family ever again” ( #punishment #discard ) .

She says it on Tuesdays too, and Wednesday’s and Thursday’s and every other day ( #seeking-praise #narcissistic-injury ) .
