Cassette tapes

Worthless or priceless?

When I was about maybe eight or ten years old I bought my first cassette tape, Michael Jackson’s Thriller. It’s the 80’s, CD’s are not even a thing yet. Later I bought his next album, Bad. I then remember spending weeks if not months, once per week, visiting the only shop in town that sold such wonderful things as Iron Maiden and Metallica cassette tapes. I would stare at them in awe, week after week, over and over again, reading the inlay cards and studying the covers in detail while waiting to conjure up enough money to actually buy one. Well, eventually I did buy one, Metallica’s Ride the Lightening. Then, over time, I bought a bunch of Iron Maiden albums. I cherished those cassette tapes for the next twenty or more years. Then Susan threw them into the trash and just like that, they were gone ( #cruel #lack-of-empathy #devaluation ) . Susan claimed they were useless and I didn’t need them anymore. And that was that ( #control #gaslighting #entitlement ) .
